Here's to New Adventures

At the start of 2016 I decided to have a theme for the whole year. That theme was self love. Due to the success of my year with that theme, I have decided to make it an annual thing to have a theme. My theme for 2017 will be giving. I prayed and asked God to give me a theme for this year and I feel that giving was the right one for 2017. My friends and family have done so much for me this year and 2017 is going to be the year that I give back. 2017 is going to be a year of selflessness, so I'm putting the spotlight on my loved ones. Thinking about it now, it is a contrast from 2016 and it feels right.

I also had a phrase for 2016 which was "a positive mind = a positive life". My phrase for the new year is "Here's to New Adventures". I really want to take more opportunities to see new places and meet new people this year. Whether it be spontaneous snack runs to Asda with friends or going to another country and seeing the world, there are countless chances to make memories.

Like I said, 2017 will be a year of giving. My family and friends have been there during the challenges and the best times of the year. Without them, the year wouldn't have gone the way that it did. I can say how much I appreciate them but 2017 will be the year to show it. I'm so excited to see their reactions to the things that I do this year. I have already planned so many exciting things for them and I'm honestly buzzing! They're not going to know what hit them!

Not only am I going to be giving back to my family and friends, but I will be continuously giving to as many people as possible. Whether it be a random compliment to a stranger or buying the homeless breakfast in the morning, I want to give to as many people as possible this year. I feel like this year the anthem for the world may as well have been Where is the love by The Black Eyed Peas. There has been so much hatred and negativity in the world so I want to lift people's spirits and make people smile during times of need.

I want to give back to God this year too. I want to always show the love that Christ shows to us. I want to give back to God by spreading love and peace, one day at a time.

2017 is the year for me to explore the world and put all the lessons that I have learnt in 2016 to practise.

What are you hoping achieve in this upcoming year? Let me know in the comment section, I would love to hear!

2016 has Taught Me....

2016. A year that has taught me so many valuable lessons. I guess Kylie Jenner was right, it was a year about realising things.

For the world, 2016 hasn't been the greatest year but it's been a year for us to learn and help us progress in the future.

2016 has taught me that everybody is going through something. So much has been happening in the lives of individuals this year, and that can make people bitter. I've always wondered why some people are so rude to people online and in person for no reason (so it seems) but I feel like 2016 has taught me that people become bitter because everyone is going through something. Whether it be mental health, family problems or any other reasons, people take out their heartbreak and anger on others. Because of this lesson, in 2017 I will make sure to respond back with kindness because only they know what they're truly feeling and going through.

2016 has taught me that God hears your prayers. I have really started to strengthen my faith in Christ and built my relationship with God stronger each day. In 2015 I became very distant from God and only really looked to him when I felt like I needed him but this year I pray just to say thank you and I pray for others more than I pray for myself and I truly know that he hears my prayers. I have seen more blessings come my way this year than ever before and it's not a coincidence that it's the same year I finally got closer to Christ.

2016 has taught me that you have to choose your friends wisely. Fake friends exist and sometimes it can take a long time to see that they don't have your best interests at heart. Simple as that really.

2016 has taught me that being yourself brings happiness. I won't talk about this too much as I am hoping to do an entire post on this and I briefly mentioned it in my Best Year Ever post.

2016 has taught me that you have to think better to feel better. Nobody is going to be a happy person if they keep focusing on all the negative things in life or dwelling on what could go wrong. If you want to feel good you have to think good thoughts.

2016 has taught me that you can't have real friends without being a real friend. You have to be selfless and always be there for other people. Don't let people take advantage of you and don't be a door mat but try to be that friend that someone is grateful to have. If you have their back, they'll have yours. If you're a rubbish friend then I'm pretty sure people will start to question your intentions and that is when friendships will shatter.

2016 has taught me that not everyone is going to like you and that is OK.

2016 has taught me you should say yes to opportunities. This is more so something I have realised towards the end of this year but now I can go into 2017 ready for new adventures.

2016 has taught me that self love is a lot of work but it's worth the energy.

2016 has taught me that this was just the warm up but 2017 is the real deal.

2016 has taught me so much. It has shaped me into the person I am but 2017 is by far going to be the best year of my life. I just know it. I've had my fair share of challenges this year but I've learnt how to deal with them. So no, I'm not going into the new year, blind to the fact that I'll have challenges thrown at me but with God I am strong, I am bold and I am ready. Bring it on!

Best Year EVER

Oh my goodness gracious, there are only four days left of 2016! It has come and gone so quickly. It has been such an eventful year full of memories. For me personally, it has been the BEST year ever.

Around this time last year, I made 16 goals for 2016 but I had three main goals. Those were to be myself and myself only, to love myself and to be more positive about life. I genuinely believe that I succeeded with all three of these goals. I kind of just decided that I was done pretending to be like everyone else and doing things because other people were. I have always been different and always had my own way of thinking, acting, looking but I never liked to exercise them, because I thought I would be judge. (I will probably write a whole post about that stage in my life). In 2015 I decided to leave the fake me in 2015. I have never gone back to being so self concision and always degrading myself. It has been the best year for that reason.

There have been so many different events happen in 2016 that have just made the year so amazing. Here is a recap of the year!

Travelling

I got to go travelling this year which was so much fun! I went to Majorca, Budapest, London, Scotland and Skegness! It has been so great visiting new places and getting to experience travelling. This has been the first year that I have been out of my city multiple times within a year and it has truly been so much fun. You learn so much about the world and yourself when travelling. I can't wait for new journeys in 2017!

Going to my first Music Festival

I went to my very first music festival with my friends as a treat just before exam season. We had SO much fun and it was great just getting to spend time with some of my best friends. It was an amazing experience and I definitely want to go to another in 2017, for sure! It was the MTV music festival. There were celebrities there and we were on TV so many times (well Taya was anyway) and it was so cool.

Being in a fashion show

Our school did a fashion show to raise money for our prom and it was super fun. We got to see everyone dressed up and really get creative with costumes. Our theme was movies so there were film characters and celebrity inspired looks. It was kind of a glimpse of what prom was going to be like as everyone just came together to have a good time and we saw people in makeup that never wore makeup to school usually.

Being assistant HeadGirl at school

If you had told me a year or two ago that  my peers and teachers would have voted for me to be 1/3 assistant head girl's of our school, I would have thought you were crazy! Being assistant head girl was fun because we got to have official meetings, help organise events, network with important people and continuously develop our public speaking skills. It was a great experience and will definitely be something that will help me in the future.

Prom

Prom was such a great night. It was (almost) a drama free night celebrating the friendships we made, getting through exams and the future that we could all look forward to. I do regret not taking more pictures but at the time I was more in the moment, enjoying myself. The memories will always be there, which is what is important.

GCSE Results

I got my first full set of important grades! From the age of four years old we learn so much and do so many exams, to prep us for our GCSE exams. In 2016, my 11 years within education paid off and I finally got my GCSE results, which I was very proud of. With those grades I knew that I could secure myself a job in the future and could move onto the next stage in my career as a student, to do A-levels.

Starting A-levels

A-levels are said to be one of the hardest form of exams you can take in the UK. A lot of people actually find it harder than doing a degree. Being able to go to sixth form and start studying A-level content has been challenging but exciting. It has been a test of organisation, intelligence and patience. All things that we need in life.

NCS

Doing the NCS program was probably one of my favourite parts of 2016. I got to go to a new place and do activities that I never thought I could possibly do, I got to experience life as a university student and live with people I didn't know, who soon became great friends, I got to make a change in my community and raise awareness for mental health. NCS was truly the greatest experience and I loved every second of it. It's strange because I was more sad leaving the people on my wave, after just three weeks of knowing them, than I was leaving school and I had known those people for at least 5 years of my life.

Graduating from School

Calling yourself a high school graduate is so strange but so cool. When you're in school it feels like forever. It feels like leaving will never happen, but let me tell you, it comes around so quick. I remember being in year 7 like it was last week and now I'm 17 doing my A-levels....that is insane. It's strange not seeing the people I used to see everyday, anymore.

Volunteering for the first time

Summer 2K16 was my first time volunteering. It was a real eye opener and I had a lot of fun. I learnt new things about people, life and skills that I needed for future success. I definitely want to do more social work and charity work in 2017. I feel like no matter how small, the things you do can change a life.

So that is a break down of some events in 2016. I couldn't mentioning everything obviously so these are the things I thought of. I hope you enjoy reflecting with me. I hope you had a great year too!

Day 23: How to be Popular

Ok, so that title grabbed your attention huh? If you came here to ACTUALLY learn how to be popular then I'm sorry to disappoint but you're in the wrong place. Today I'm going to be speaking on a topic that has been on my mind for a long time. Popularity.

So what is popularity? Popularity is the idea of being admired, loved or supported by many people. There are many factors which society can use to identify one as popular. From how "attractive" you are, the amount of friends you have and your following count on social media. Popularity has been considered a major thing within society for many years but I have noticed that it seems to be in the back of people's minds more so now than ever.

Straight away the whole idea of popularity is damaging to humanity, but the reality is, it will always be there. As humans we categorise one another creating social ranking. Walking around school and college our brains automatically try to suss out the popular crowd and identify those who are on top of the social ladder. It's not something we do on purpose but because we're human. There is no way that you have never been out in public and tried to figure out what sort of people are most likely "popular". It can be emotionally damaging to put yourself far away from the top of that social ladder. That all comes down from feeling worthless, unappreciated, self conscious and other negative things that we shouldn't feel. It's so sad that one thing like popularity can have so much power over somebody's life.

The idea of a good reputation seems to overshadow the rest of people's lives. I sadly used to be a victim of that. It is a known fact that as human beings we crave love. We feel, we love, we want to be loved. Sometimes that is what gets the better of us. The whole concept of being popular means we're loved. Right? Mean girls says otherwise.
It's crazy how far people can go to have the "perfect reputation". They'll cut you off, put on this fake demeanor to impress other people and forget who they really are, just to be who society says to be. It takes a lot more energy to change yourself than to be yourself. Trust me, I know.
It's funny because everyday I see people in person and online trying to fit society's image of popularity but I know it's not really them. It's kind of like a cookie cutter. We try to fill in that shape but at the same time we're being separated from everything else. We're cutting off whatever is stopping us from being that perfect image.

One factor that seems to determine your place in society and your social ranking is social media. Like I said, it seems to matter more so now than ever. Technology has evolved. Social media is becoming this big thing. It's a part of our daily routines. I mean it's pretty difficult to avoid. It's 2016, almost 2017. Social media isn't something we can easily ignore.
Social media platforms have almost become this place to promote our lives. It's like a form of advertisement trying to convince you that one life is better than another. It doesn't directly do that but it kind of does right? How many times have you scrolled through Instagram and saw pictures from somebody's year of travelling and thought "wow that is an amazing life to have" or saw a picture of a couple and thought "I wish somebody could look at me like that" or "that is goals". Instagram in particular is very good at making you feel jealous. That's right. You're jealous. But so am I. It's not a good thing to be jealous obviously but that is how we feel. We want that life in the image and wish we could have that. But guess what? Social media isn't a true representation of how people live. We THINK that somebody has the perfect life because they get to see the world but maybe they didn't have the best start to life and that money they used to pay for that holiday had to be saved for a VERY long time. That perfect couple you see in the picture? Not so perfect. Maybe that girl is cheating on her man and he doesn't even know. That STUNNING woman with flawless makeup and pearly white teeth? She could be covering up those scars and bruises with makeup because her father beats her and she's been bullied all her life.

Social media is not always a true representation of a life. She may have 50,000 followers on Instagram but she's still in debt, he may have a million subscribers on YouTube but he's depressed. That couple may look perfect but they're on the road to divorce. Popularity online means nothing. That candid, airbrushed photo isn't the life. Their life is behind that smile. If you take a photo of yourself and find so many flaws about it, are you going to post it? No. They are not going to post pictures that actually describe what they're going through. We share the best parts of our lives and it fools people into thinking we're OK. It's hard to determine the real and the fake. Of course there are people out there who are genuine and do share the truth, but sadly that isn't entirely the case.

You would think by being popular, it means that everybody loves you right? Unfortunately that isn't true. Even movies can tell us that. Those horrible, mean, plastic girls that rule the school are actually hated by half the school in those typical high school dramas. They THINK that everybody worships the ground they walk on and the floor is waxed and shiny just for them but actually they waxed the floor just to see you drop. Harsh but valid. People need to dismiss this idea that if you're popular, everyone will love you. "I don't love myself but if everyone else does then maybe I will too". WRONG. Stop striving to be popular and strive to be the best version of yourself possible. Don't aspire to BE the best but aspire to be the best YOU. A little deep (who am I kidding this whole post is deep) but when you die, you know who you'll be with? YOU. It's just you. You're a solo act. One day it will just be you and you have to deal with it so you may as well learn to love yourself now. You could have a million followers on Twitter and have people make fan accounts for you but when your time comes to go, none of that will matter. Yes you'll leave a legacy and you'll be remembered but you're being remembered by people you don't even know. Numbers won't matter. That grave next to you could have family come visit everyday but you don't because you shut everybody out. You cut off your loved ones to impress people you didn't even know. Again, harsh but valid.

I've never been popular so I don't know what its like but it's got to be tiring right? There is a lot of pressure. Now that you've created this empire and image for yourself, you have to maintain it. You're known as this "peng" slim thick model so you always have to look your best. So help the world if you get a pimple because the world will go crazy. "wait, she's not perfect" "she's such a catfish" "she's actually so ugly". There is an immense amount of pressure on you now. You wanted to be popular, You wanted everybody to know who you are but now it's time to maintain it. You finally got those white vans but now you have to keep them white. Same thing. It can't be easy. It just can't be. You showed the world your "perfect" relationship but how are you going to tell the world that you cheated on him? Tough situation.

Despite how it may seem and how it may appear, popularity doesn't bring you happiness. It may bring you friends, but are they friends? It may bring you money, but what is it being spent on? Drugs? Anti-depressants? A certain degree of happiness may come from being "popular" but doesn't make your life wholesome.

There is a sad reality. There will always be someone out there who is better than you. Better grades, better style, better opportunities. But that is OK. That is them, this is you. You don't need to be the best. You need to be happy. You need to love the life YOU have and love your own life. If we start stepping away from this concept of being popular, we can make humanity so much happier. Don't strive to be popular with other people, strive to be popular in your own eyes. Want the life you have.

It's not easy to always think that way, I still don't always think that way but if more people start loving themselves and the life they live, flaws and all, we're on the right path.

Day 22: My Winter Morning Routine

I can't believe we're coming so close to the end of blogmas! It's flew by so quickly and despite the stress of having to get all the posts up each day, it has been so much fun to give you all posts everyday. Only three posts left!

Today I thought I would share with you my winter morning routine for 2016. This genuinely has been my routine for winter break. I've only seen a few morning routines in written format so I thought why not! We see so many of these through video so why not shake it up a little.

I wake up at around 9:30am. There are times where I press snooze and also times where I wake up earlier but I set an alarm for 9:30 so that I can have a lie in but not sleep the day away.

I usually stay in bed for quite a while before getting ready. I go down stairs and make some breakfast and take it up to my room. Today I had a crepe. I'll check all my social media like Twitter and Instagram (bad habit I know) and I'll read a bunch of blogs. I really enjoy reading blog posts in the morning, especially if they're motivational.

If I'm still not up to getting ready and I don't have any plans, like today, I watch YouTube videos. Today I binge watched Mylifeaseva's vlogmas videos. Eva and Adam are the cutest! She has actually made it a life goal of mine to go to Switzerland with my future partner now.

Half way through watching videos or scrolling through Instagram, I always feel the urge to make a cup of tea. Today I had peppermint tea and it was so good! You have to start the day right guys! Nothing better than a cuppa in the morning (I swear I'm actually 40 years old).

Eventually I actually get ready for the day. I go to the bathroom and do all the basics. I do my morning skin care routine, brush my teeth and take a hot shower. Showers are the best way to wake you up if you're ever still tired.

Once I'm out the bathroom, its time to finish getting ready. I pick out some clothes to wear. Today I went for a halter crop top and some plaid leggings as I just wanted something comfortable. I wasn't leaving the house today so I didn't need anything fancy.

I then do my makeup for the day. There are some days when I have no plans and I don't feel like putting makeup on but today I was feeling to put a little on. I wore some foundation and concealer (set with powder of course), a little bit of blush, eyeliner, mascara and a clear lip-gloss. And of course I had to fill in my brows because...it's just necessary OK.

Now it's time to get on with my day!

Thanks for reading,

Have a great day x

Day 21: 17 Goals for 2017

What a year it has been. So much has happened during 2016 and it has flown by so quickly. Now 2017 is just around the corner. A new year means new opportunities, new memories and new goals. I hate calling them resolutions. This isn't going to be like those stereotypical "resolutions" that we create and fail within the first 5 days of the new year. These are goals that I'm hoping to achieve in 2017 and on going goals throughout the rest of my life.

1. Be optimistic

During 2016 I have really learnt to be more positive. A positive mind equals a positive life. I have started to be more optimistic about everything that I do. I feel as though 2016 has been the warm up and 2017 is going to be the real deal. I want to become more of an optimistic and positive, spirited person.

2. Eat more Clean

Every year I say to myself that I'm going to eat healthier and it doesn't seem to go as plan. For 2017 I want to seriously eat cleaner. I'm not planning on completely changing my diet but I do want to add new things and also make some cuts too. I'm not one to wait to start my goals as soon as it strikes 12 on January 1st. If I have a goal I really want to achieve, I start as soon as I can. I have already cut out a lot of sugar in my diet and I am hoping 2017 will be my year to finally make some changes to my eating habits.

3. Start a skin care routine that works for me

As I have grown up, my skin has been getting worse and worse. It is most likely down to hormones but it has been bothering me all year. I have tried so many different products this year but I haven't found a full skin care routine that works for me. I want to create a regime that makes improvements to how my skin looks and feels.

4. Overthink less

Yup, I'm an over-thinker. Guilty. I can't help it! The smallest things can get me stuck in a hole of deep thoughts and I tend to stress about things that aren't worth the aggravation. I guess this sort of ties into the first goal about being optimistic.

5. BE MORE ORGANISED

I literally capitalised this one just to show how important it is. I am the worst at being organised. I used to be so on top of things but now...not so much. I used to write lists and made sure things got done, I would sort things out prior to events etc. I want to go back to being that organised person. Making sure everything is prepared beforehand, remembering not to leave things around. Basically just put my life in order.

6. Be a Friend to Everyone

I would definitely say I have a kind heart. I try my best to be a friendly person and to always be compassionate but I do think there is always room for improvement. I want to be friendly to everyone I come across. I have definitely learnt a lot about people this year and it has encouraged me to be nice to everyone, regardless of how they come across.

7. Gossip Less

So this one isn't as it seems. I didn't know how else to word it. I am not that person who spreads gossip to other people or gets involved in drama, however I have to admit that I do tend to listen to it. Whenever something goes on, I don't mind hearing about it, even if I know I'm not going to do much with that information. I don't want to be that person anymore. I know for a fact that I don't want people knowing about my business so I shouldn't want to hear about others. I want to get to a stage where I can walk away whenever I hear gossip and not care at all about anybody else's business.

8. Say Yes to more Opportunities

This year has been the best year for me in  terms of opportunities. I have been given so many opportunities that I have said yes to but that I have also said no to. A lot of those things I still regret rejecting and wish I had grabbed with both hands. I want to do as much as possible in 2017. I want to take a chance and say yes to as many things as I can.

9. GET A JOB

I have been trying to get a job since I was 15 years old and I just haven't. I have applied to a million and one places, went to interviews, updated my CV a thousand times and nothing. According to my mum it's because I'm not very proactive. Companies like eager and proactive people so I should definitely work on that. I desperately need a job so this has got to be one of my top three goals.

10. Work Hard(er)

I have always had a good work ethic. I'm a fairly motivated person and I have so many aspirations for the future. I have never worked harder than I did in year 11. But that is the problem. I feel like I worked harder in year 11 than I have whilst doing A-levels. In year 11 I did so much extra work, revised almost everyday and constantly had my head screwed on but I don't seem to have that same work ethic in sixth form. I of course do all the work and do them to the best of my ability but I don't do extra work or revise unless I have a mock. I want to work just as hard, in fact harder than I did when doing my GCSE exams because A-levels are tough and if I practice being really independent now, it won't be such a shock when I'm all alone at uni.

11. Start a Journal

When I was younger I had so many diaries. I had a diary about my days, a diary about my problems and a diary about all the crushes I had back in primary school (It's hilarious). I look back at them all the time and they make me smile and laugh. I have even read them with my friends and they've had a good giggle. I want to start a journal again because even though I now have a blog, there are still obviously things I want to write about and not share with people. I love the idea of having something to go to when I want to express my feelings when I don't want to talk and something I can look back at in years from now.

12. Join a dance studio

Since I have left high school, I haven't had any where or time to go for dancing. I miss dancing so much and I really don't want to give it up. I want to find a studio that I can go to, which won't hurt my schedule and that I'll enjoy attending.

13. Have an aesthetically pleasing Instagram

I love accounts that look good. I always envy the commitment that people have when it comes to sticking with a theme. I've noticed that less people are sticking with a theme and caring about their Instagram now but I have always wanted to have a nice looking feed. I just think it would be cool to have an Instagram that co-ordinates well.

14. Be more Fashionable

I am so interested in fashion but I don't try hard enough. I have always liked fashion but I'm also pretty lazy. I tend to just pick whatever because I'm too lazy to co-ordinate outfits and actually think about how pieces look together. Since starting sixth form I have proved that I can be fashionable, as we have business wear, but I'm still not there yet. I don't want to be just fashionable at parties and sixth form but all the time.

15. Travel to new places

Fortunately I have had the chance to travel to several new places this year and I absolutely love it. I'm very interested in learning about different cultures, seeing the world and trying new things. Travelling is such an amazing way to learn about life, find yourself and make new memories. I want to visit as many new places as I can! Whether it be in my country or across the globe. I'm going on holiday in February and I'm super excited.

16. Meet new people

I have met some of the most incredible human beings this year. I am so grateful to have met so many new people and made so many great friendships. Meeting new people has been the main reason for 2016 being such a good year for me. I feel that 2017 is going to be a year that I meet people that will mean so much to me and I can't wait!

17. I want to change a life

So many people have changed my life this year for the better. I want to do the same. I want to make someones life better and make them happy. I want to bring more smiles to the world and just hold a place in someone's heart.

I am so grateful for all of you. This blog has changed my life in so many ways and I'm so thankful for the support that everyone has given me.

I hope you enjoyed. Let me know in the comments some of your goals or if you have a blog/YouTube, leave your links and I'll check them out because I would love to hear your goals for the new year.

Thanks for reading,

Have a great day x

Day 19: Christmas

Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It's a time to say thank you for all he has done for us and a time to reflect on his influence on the world. A day of thanks giving and rejoice.

Happiness and Joy all around us. Music playing and smiles from ear to ear. Christmas is a time full of excitement and elation. Every December we hear Christmas cheer. December is the most exciting time of year (I did not intend for that to rhyme but get in!).

Rich in love. Christmas is a time for love and appreciation. Spending time with our loved ones and showing our appreciation for all that they do for us.

Ice and frost everywhere. The cold frosty air creates such a festive vibe. Cuddling up in the warm with a blanket and some hot chocolate is one of my favourite things to do. Ice skating is so much fun. I'm no professional but I go every year and adore every second of it, regardless of the trips and falls every now and then. And I can't forget the feeling of my legs tensing in the boots.

Shopping can be a stress. I love buying for friends and family but it can be such a stressful time. December is definitely the most expensive time of the year.

Traditions are what make Christmas so magical. Traditions add that extra special personal touch. I love having certain traditions as there is always something to look forward to. Whether it be going to a certain place every Christmas season or watching a particular movie with family, they make Christmas so much more special.

Meals, meals, meals. Oh how I adore Christmas dinner. The food always exceeds my expectations. Every year I look forward to stuffing my face in a giant meal and I'm never disappointed.

Adventures. Christmas is a time to try new things. Although its great to have traditions, its also great to be spontaneous. Try new foods, go to new places, try new things. It's the last month of the year so make it extra special by stepping out of your comfort zone. You could look like Bambi on ice, you could absolutely hate the taste of stuffing but its a memory you can have. Trying something new can always create new memories.

Sunday will be the day of Christmas this year! Only 6 more sleeps to go. I'm so excited for Christmas, you probably already know (Oh yes that rhymed, get in).

Day 18: Sick Day Survival Tips

With cold weather, comes colds. I don't know about you but my immune system always seems to be weaker in the winter. Unfortunately flu season can make us sick at the worst times. I have a few tips on how to survive when sick and recover as quickly as possible.

Get plenty of sleep

Sleep does wonders for the body when we're sick. Sleep allows the body to recover and fight off pathogens. Have a lie in if possible or take a nap during the day. If you're unable to do those things, try to get an early night. The more sleep, the better!

Drink hot substances

When you wake up, have herbal tea. This is good for your health in general so it makes sense to have it when unwell. I have peppermint tea when i'm ill and a lot of people tend to have pure green tea too.
I really like having soup when i'm ill, especially if I have a fever and one of the symptoms is feeling cold.

Have a healthy breakfast!

Too many people skip breakfast and to me that is crazy. You don't eat for atleast 8 hours after you go to bed, so.it is important that you fill your body with enough to keep you energised. Don't have anything containing a lot of sugar, salt or fat. You want to fill your body with healthy food. I love to have wholemeal toast with egg and spinch. I either have peppermint tea or orange juice with that as they both help with recovery. Orange juice contains vitamin C which will definitely be a big help when it comes to recovering.

Steam your face

I have a steamer at home as I use it for skin care too sometimes but using a bowl with a tea towel works EXACTLY the same way. Just boil the kettle with steaming hot water and fill the bowl. Hover your face over it for 10 minutes and put a tea towel over your head to stop heat escaping. It works wonders for a blocked nose as it gets rid of all the gross stuff. It also really helps your skin if its dry and tense. It unclogs pores really well. Some steamers allow you to put essential oils in so you could use peppermint to help with unblocking your nose.

Do something that keeps you relaxed

Try not to stress out! If it is possible, take the time off from work or school to recover and stay relaxed. Stress just adds to the mix so try to keep yourself calm. I like to write blog posts in bed, read a book or watch movies. It takes my mind off things and doesn't make me feel stressed. You can always do that work when you are feeling more like yourself. Don't force yourself to do something you're not capable of.

Try not to wear makeup

There are YouTube videos out there that show 'sick day makeup tutotials' but its actually better not to wear any makeup at all. Let your skin breathe. Not only does it clog your pores but its pretty time consuming. If you're ill but you need to go out, fair enough wear a little but I would skip any kind of base makeup like foundation and just go for eye makeup to make your look more awake.

Be prepared

There is nothing worse than being ill at school. I hate being ill at school because I'm blowing my nose every two seconds. You wouldn't believe how many times I had to get a full toilet roll from the bathroom because I ran out of tissue. Make sure to bring anything you need to get through the day. Lots of tissues, tablets etc.

Those are my tips on how to survive a sick day. I hope they help in some way!

Day 17: It's The Little Things

Happiness is truly the greatest thing you can ever have. Everyday we should wake up in the morning ready for a great day. No matter what the previous day was like, it's a new canvas, so start a new masterpiece.

I find happiness through everything around me. It's the little things. From the sun beaming through my window in the morning to reading blog posts in my bed, It's the little things that create something much bigger. It's like a painting. Each brush stoke, each bit of detail contributes to beautiful, fine work. No matter what it is, find happiness in everything that you see and do.

I thought I would give some of my favourite quotes that make me happy and explain true happiness in the best way.

Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain... To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices - today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.
-Kevin Aucoin

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.
-Albert Schweitzer

A smile is happiness you'll find right under your nose.
-Tom Wilson

Every day is a new day, and you'll never be able to find happiness if you don't move on.
-Carrie Underwood

The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life.
-William Moms
Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.
-Helen Keller

Love yourself. It is important to stay positive because beauty comes from the inside out.
-Jenn Proske

Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.
-William James

With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.
- Eleanor Roosevelt

If you can dream it, you can do it.
-Walt Disney

Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.
-Tony Robbins

Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.
-Leo Buscagila

Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'!
-Audrey Hepburn

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted
-Aesop

Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.

Day 16: My Winter Break Bucket List

School's out! I finally finished sixth form today and it's officially Christmas break. Now that I have 2 weeks off from school, I can be merry and festive without the guilt. As soon as I got home early afternoon, I plugged my phone into some speakers and blasted the holiday tunes. The fun has already begun.

I want to make the most of my break before I go back to school in the new year and before the second term begins, so I created a winter break bucket list. I don't expect to do everything on this list as it is only a two week break, however I would love to do as much as possible. Enjoy!

1. Do some baking
2. Go January sale shopping
3. Have a little Christmas party with my family
4. Have a Christmas movie marathon
5. Go ice skating
6. Have a get together with friends
7. Start a Journal
8. Donate to Charity
9. Go on a big wheel
10. Go to the German Market
11. Start a good book
12. Do a winter themed photo-shoot
13. Go to the cinema
14. Write a letter to my 16 year old self back in January

Day 15: An Open Letter to Jesus

Hey its me, your daughter, but of course you know that.

What does one say to a being she adores so much? For as long as I can remember, I have always grown up in a christian home. I've been taught to worship you, thank you and look to you for guidance, but it's only been now, this year, that I have developed my own relationship with you.

People may be making faces at their screens right now, thinking I'm absolutely insane to believe that God exists. I get questioned all the time about my faith and asked why I believe in you. I get asked for "proof" that you exist pretty much everyday. Its really tough being one of the only Christians in my friendship group because nobody actually understands. People can read this and make up their mind up about me, both positive and negatives but it will never change the fact that I love everything about my religion.

This year I have really practiced my faith more than ever and I've had so many blessings in return. 2015 was the worst year for me and I was determined to make 2016 my year. I knew I wanted to strengthen my faith and I did. As a result, so many blessings have came my way and I can not thank you enough.

Another birthday is approaching for you. Its so amazing that there is an entire day for the world to celebrate your birth. Whether people believe in you or not, they should know that Christmas would never have existed if it wasn't for you.

I remember when I was an infant, I used to make a birthday card for you at school and every Christmas I would leave it by the window for you to see (how cute!) . Memories like that always make me smile because even then I adored you.

Thank you for protecting me all of my life. You have done so much for me and I won't ever be able to do as much for you as you do for me. I try as hard as possible to keep you in mind during everything I do.

This year I have really learnt to love myself. I realise that society's idea of beautiful is nothing compared to what you see. From the moment you created us, you saw us as perfect beings. We were created with so much care, consideration and love. Everyone is perfect in your eyes. I shouldn't ever see myself as anything but beautiful because that is how you created me. I should never question your work. I feel that by having this mentality, I have become so much more confident in myself.

Thank you for coming down to earth and making the world a better place, doing miracles and being the light of the world. I can't wait to meet you one day! The world's greatest hero.I will continue to love and appreciate you, all the days of my life.

Thank you for everything!

Lots of love, Rochelle x

Day 13: HELP

Another non Christmas related post. Obviously it's the final month of the year and after Christmas my posts will relate to this year or the upcoming year in some way. I have already started planning my posts for after my blogmas series and I'm actually really excited to write and post them.

I just wanted to write a short blog post asking what sort of blog posts you all prefer and want me to post in the upcoming year. Although I do have ideas and plans, you guys are the ones who read them and click on the post in the first place. Do you enjoy long posts or would you prefer shorter ones?

I know a lot of bloggers pretty much just post pictures and like two paragraphs with it. Is that something that you would want me to do? Of course I will still do long posts as that is what I enjoy doing and I blog purely for enjoyment, however I am also happy to do short posts as well.

I am going to be planning my blogs more regularly so that I have consistent upload days. I really want to write content that people enjoy reading, as much as I love writing them.

If you do have requests, please leave them in the comments, message me on other social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram etc.

Day 12: An Interview with Santa's Elf

So, for day 12, I thought I would do something a different. I wanted to do a fun post that would bring out my inner child. I am going to be posting 20 questions that I would ask an ELF who works for Santa Claus. If I ever had an encounter with an elf, these are the questions I would ask.

1) What is it like working for Santa?

2) Do you ever feel bad when you see children on the naughty list?

3) How long does it take you to make one toy?

4) When do you start making the toys?

5) What do you do for fun at the North Pole?

6) Do you communicate with Santa a lot before Christmas eve?

7) Has a child ever spotted yourself or Santa on the Job?

8) Do you know how to ride the sleigh?

9) On average, how short are you?

10) What is your favourite Christmas memory?

11) How do you monitor behaviour all year around?

12) What is your favourite thing about being an elf?

13) How do you get a job at the North Pole?

14) Is the North Pole festive all year round?

15) Who is the head elf?

16) Why do you think so many adults don't believe in Santa?

17) Does Santa watch children sleep?...

18) What is your favourite thing about being so tiny?

19) How do you travel the world in like 12 hours?

20) Is there training for every job in the factory?

I hope you enjoyed thus post!

Day 11: 5 things to do in the Christmas season

Of all the holidays, Christmas is most definitely my favourite! There is so much to do and so many exciting places to go. Here are 5 things that I love to do during the holidays.

#1 Visit Christmas Markets

Visiting Christmas Markets is so much fun! I love saving up money to buy Christmas gifts, food, decorations etc. I really enjoy walking around with family and friends in the Christmas spirit. Everything is always so beautiful and festive, you just can't beat it.

The German market in my city is so amazing. People travel from all over the country and the world just to come to it. It's always packed and there is a good reason why.

My old high school always sets up a Christmas market and I love it. I get to see my old teachers and peers as well as get in the festive mood.

Overall, going to Christmas markets is one of the best ways to get into the festive mood.

#2 Decorate your Bedroom

I adore decorating for Christmas. As soon as its December 1st, the lights go up, the crafts are out. I like to decorate my whole house but I always go the extra mile in my room because its my own little space. My own winter wonderland. I like to put my playlist on while I decorate the room and clean.

#3 Have a Christmas Movie Marathon

Have a Christmas Movie Marathon! Grab some popcorn, some drinks, blankets and your favourite sweets/chocolates and spend the day watching some of the best Christmas movies. If there is anything that gets me excited for Christmas, its watching a lot of festive films in the warm. I like to wrap myself around with a comfy blanket with my homemade hot chocolate.

#4 Bake Christmas Cookies

I love to bake. Christmas is my favourite time of the year to bake. Grab your friends or siblings (or do it yourself if you'd rather bake alone) and make some delicious treats! I love making Christmas shaped biscuits and decorating them with icing and toppings. I have so much fun baking with my little brother, especially when the festive tunes are blasting.

#5 Try a new look

It's the final month of the year so why not do something different and try to do a completely different look to what you usually do. I love my warm tone colours so I decided one day to do a look that was entirely cool toned. I had so much fun doing it and seeing how different it was compared to what I was used to. It may not be Christmas related however, its something fun to do when you're bored. It doesn't even have to be makeup, it could be a certain fashion trend or a hairstyle.

So these are 5 things to do in the Christmas season, I hope this gave you some inspiraton.
